There was no shortage of wagging tails, happy smiles, and puppy kisses when Petland Lewis Center attended this year’s ABC Veterans Expo at Polaris Fashion Place on May 20. We were honored to spend the day meeting local veterans, their families, and members of our community while sharing something we know firsthand. Pets truly have the power to change lives.
From the moment the event began, our booth quickly became a favorite stop. More than 200 people stopped by to meet our adorable animals, ask questions, and learn more about the many benefits of pet ownership. Whether visitors were looking for information, a little puppy therapy, or simply wanted a break to cuddle a furry friend, we were happy to welcome everyone.
The Stars of the Show? Our Puppies, Of Course!
Let’s be honest. The puppies definitely stole the spotlight.
Our four-legged team included a playful Mini Poodle named Lambchop, an adorable Dachshund, a lovable Chiweenie, and a charming French Bulldog. As if that wasn’t enough cuteness, our sweet 3-month-old Cockatiel also made plenty of new friends throughout the day. Together, they brought smiles to everyone who stopped by and helped create meaningful conversations about the joy and benefits of pet ownership.

Watching people light up while interacting with the animals was one of the highlights of the event. It’s amazing how quickly a wagging tail or a few puppy kisses can brighten someone’s day.
More Than Cute Faces
While everyone enjoyed spending time with our animals, the event was also an opportunity to have meaningful conversations about the incredible impact pets can have on our lives.

At Petland Lewis Center, we know that pets are much more than companions. They encourage us to stay active, reduce stress, provide comfort during difficult times, and become cherished members of our families.
For many veterans, those benefits can be especially meaningful. Companion animals and service dogs can provide emotional support, encourage daily routines, improve mobility, and help individuals coping with PTSD or other challenges regain confidence and independence.
Supporting Veterans Through Petland Charities
One of our favorite conversations throughout the day centered around Petland Charities and its ongoing commitment to supporting veterans.
Since 2016, Petland Charities has donated the cost of one professionally trained service dog each year to Heartland K9s. These specially trained dogs help veterans regain independence while providing companionship, mobility assistance, and emotional support.
It’s a mission we’re incredibly proud to be a part of, and one that perfectly reflects why events like the ABC Veterans Expo are so important.
Our First Veterans Expo Was One to Remember
This was Petland Lewis Center’s first time participating in the ABC Veterans Expo, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
We loved connecting with fellow vendors, meeting so many incredible veterans, and sharing our passion for responsible pet ownership. Throughout the day, we talked with families about puppies, kittens, birds, training, pet care, and how choosing the right pet can make a lasting difference.
The response from the community was overwhelming, and we are already looking forward to participating again.
