This dog breed is obedient which makes it a dog you won’t have a problem hanging out with. Among this breed are the show dogs and the field dogs.  The field dogs have fit appearances making them look more dangerous than the ones used for the show.

Some characteristics of the show dogs are droopier ears, dewlaps and dangling flews. They are more heavily boned than the more agile field bred

History of Breed

The English Springer Spaniel was originally bred as a hunting dog. Specifically, they were used to “flush” or “spring” game, which means they would chase birds into flight so that hunters could spot them. English Springer Spaniels were also trained to retrieve game.

This breed is a very alert, happy, and focused breed that is known for its warm and loving personality. They have upbeat personalities and a warm and approachable demeanor. This breed makes a fantastic family pet and has remained very popular as such for generations. They have won the hearts of many families over the years thanks to their amazing qualities.

Appearance and Grooming

The English Springer Spaniel does best with a warm bath every four to six weeks. Daily brushing of its coat will help make this pup shine and feel his best as well as prevent matting. Routine nail clipping is also very important and should not be forgotten.

Care and Feeding

English Springer Spaniels are active dogs and do need ample amounts of energy to feel their best. The correct ratio of meat-based protein and micronutrients, as well as healthy carbs and fats, will keep this breed healthy. Many of this breed’s owners recommend feeding this dog two meals a day, spaced about twelve hours apart. It is also very important to remember to provide your dog with proper dental care. It is suggested that his teeth get cleaned a minimum of three times a week. Failing to keep his teeth clean can contribute to health issues.
